Recently it came to the attention of the American Spirit newspaper that
there is a material called Cancell that has been used to treat cancer
patients with phenomenal success rates. This synthetic chemical compound
has also been used with success by patients suffering from AIDS, ALS (Lou
Gehrig's disease). Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson's,
Alzheimer's, Scleroderma and other extreme maladies. However, in November
1992 Judge Bernard A. Friedman issued a permanent injunction against the
maker of Cancell stopping all distribution of the material.

For more than a year the American Spirit Newspaper has reported on the
controversy surrounding the Nutritional Labeling and Education Act of 1990
(NLEA) which is scheduled to go into effect January 1, 1994. Public outcry
protesting this legislation is primarily centered around the power this law
will put in the hands of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over all
types of vitamins, nutritional supplements and alternative methods of
health care.

The American Spirit contacted Edward J. Sopcak, the developer of Cancell to
find out more about this product and why it has been outlawed. The
following is a portion of our interview with Mr. Sopcak:

ASN: What exactly is Cancell?

Sopcak: Cancell is a vibrational catalyst. Disease is a low vibrational
density existing within the human body, which is also a vibrational
density, but of a higher frequency. When you get close to Cancell, as you
get it in the aura of the body (you don't have to take it internally) it
will allow the body to harmonize or readjust its frequency. Cancell simply
allows the body to reharmonize itself. That's all there is to it.

ASN: I understand it was someone else who originally started the research?

Sopcak: In 1936 James Sheridan had a vision of how cancer could be cured by
a manipulation of energy fields. He was a biochemist working for Dow
Chemical at the time. When he realized that you could manipulate these
energies with chemicals he decided that he ought to start doing something.
Of course, Dow chemical didn't want to have anything to do with it so Jim
did it on his own. He stayed with it and by 1947 he had developed a
material that would cure about 38% of cancer cases, that he tried it on. He
kept working on it and manipulating it, and by 1983 he had a material that
was about 80% effective. He had been at it for 47 years.

ASN: Totally on his own?

Sopcak: Not really. He worked for the Michigan Cancer Foundation and in the
1950's they did a study of Entelev (which was the name of Sheridan's
material.) You may be interested in knowing that in classical Greek Entelev
translates to "Known only to God." The Michigan Cancer Foundation had a
system whereby the American Cancer Society made up the difference in their
funding. Therefore they notified the American Cancer Society that this
material was ready for testing. The American Cancer Society wanted to be
involved, so they had Jim transferred to their payroll. Within two months,
after that transfer was made, Jim Sheridan was fired and the thing was
dropped.

ASN: Were any reasons given for why Jim was fired by the American Cancer
Society or why funding was suddenly dropped?

Sopcak: No. At one point after I had gotten involved the FDA kept
persistently demanding that we needed to do some toxicity testing and that
type of thing, and we decided that we would pay for this testing. Jim found
what he considered was the best laboratory in the country out in New
Mexico. I provided the material and we sent it out. They said that they
would do the toxicity test originally for $5,000.00. Then, after they got
the material, they called Jim and said sorry, it would have to be
$7,000.00. We said go ahead and do it. Then they called and said it would
be $15,000.00. And we said do it, Then they called and said for some reason
or other they were unable to do it.

Jim drove to this laboratory, walked in plain off the street and said that
he would like to have a toxicity test run. They said, oh wonderful, they
could do it. He asked how long and they said they said they could have it
done within a week if he got the material to them. Jim told them, "You
already have the material." They said, "What is it?" He said, "Entelev",
and everything changed. They absolutely couldn't get around to doing it,
they were not equipped and every excuse you could think of.

So that has happened a half a dozen different times. Another time we went
to the University of Michigan and asked their Chemistry Department to do
the tests for us. They agreed to do them. However, when we brought the
material over they vehemently said, "Take that material out of here. We
don't want any part of it. Just get it out of here."

Finally, in 1983-84 Jim just quit. He'd been fighting it for 47 years and
nobody wanted to support him, so he retired. I'm shepherding it along now.

ASN: As mysteriously as the progress of the research has been blocked in
the past, it seems like it has it's own tenacity to resurface.

Sopcak: Well, I tell people it's an entity all it's own and it's going to
do any darn thing it wants to, and it does. I think one of the biggest
problems with Cancell, and it really isn't with Cancell, it's with me, is
that I've embarrassed the medical profession. Here I am - I don't have a
medical degree, I didn't use a billion dollars worth of government money, I
don't work for a university. I just took money out of my own hip pocket,
not a cent from anybody else for this, and just did it. That really
violates every precept they have of medical research and I think they are
so embarrassed that they wish the heck I would go away. They're trying to
get me to go away, but they can't.

ASN: Up until the present injunction you were still able to freely use it,
test it, it wasn't something that the government could do anything about,
is that correct?

Sopcak: Yes. By the time the medical industry became aware that it was out
there I had probably already given away about 30,000 bottles of it. And
there was an underground out there, a tremendous underground of people who
had taken it. A lot of people knew about Cancell.

Two things happened pretty simultaneously which drew the government and
medical profession's attention to it. One is that I had sent a couple
hundred bottles of Cancell to Africa to do some double blind studies under
FDA protocol on the AIDS virus. Those reports indicated from the initial
study done in Tanzania at the Progondu Hospital that of the 101 people Dr.
Benkendorfer gave it to, 99 came up virus-free in 21 days. And the 100 in
the control group all still had the virus. Also, at just about the same
time, the National Cancer Institute asked for a sample of Cancell and I
provided it to them. They tested it on 58 separate human tumors in vitro,
and it reduced or eliminated all 58 of them and was 100% effective. Their
final report was dated December 1990. It was then that they brought a
lawsuit against me to inhibit me or prohibit me from making a gift of this
to people.

Cancell is an embarrassment to the medical profession. As of 1992 $1
trillion has been spent on cancer research. These was a report published in
the New England Journal of Medicine from a study on cancer research which
came to the conclusions that in the last 50 years there's been no progress
in the treatment of cancer and that the billions of dollars spent on cancer
research have been totally wasted, and that in the last 20 years the death
rates from cancer had increased by 8.7% because people are now dying from
the therapy.

ASN: Hasn't a majority of the research gone into the therapy and not the
cause?

Sopcak: Well, you can see, they're confused. The American Cancer Society
says cancers are several hundred different diseases. But the truth of the
matter is cancer is a single disease with a single cause. All cancer is, is
a mutation of an anaerobic cell. It's nothing else but that. So you have to
figure out how you get anaerobic cells in the body and how you get them to
mutate. It's energy-based. In most instances, the mutation is caused by a
chronic demand for energy placed upon the cell structure that is in excess
of what the cells are programmed to delivery. The body answers that chronic
demand for energy by mutating the anaerobic cell. That's cancer. It's just
that simple. That's how it occurs.

Now it's possible, of course, to put a stress upon it by a virus or a
pollutant. But in at lease 9 out of 10 cases that I've talked to, and I've
probably talked to over 40,000 people with cancer, it is a stressful
situation that resulted in cancer. And that of course is a mental disease.
Consequently, if the mind is strong enough to cause it, it should be strong
enough to cure it also. Ant it is. That's vibrational medicine. The thought
pattern is also a vibrational frequency and you can cure things by getting
the right frequencies in your thought patterns. Call it positive thinking
or placebo effect. It's nothing more purely and simply than vibrational
medicine.

ASN: When you were distributing Cancell, did you have a set schedule you
gave to people for taking it?

Sopcak: No. We always tell people to take it until whatever the symptoms
they're taking it for are gone. And it's always variable. People with MS
usually have such a lousy mental attitude because the medical profession
keeps telling them it's incurable and they're going to waste away and die,
so they believe that trash and it takes a greater length of time for those
people to come back around to where they can get up out of their
wheelchairs and get back to work.

We've had cancer patients come back cancer-free in a matter of weeks, a
couple of weeks. And then we've had cancer patients that have hung on for a
year before they kicked it. We've also had a few people that believed so
strongly in the medical profession who took Cancell and died. However, when
their autopsies were run it was found that they were cancer-free.

It's outrageous that we have in our files probably 10,000 people that we
have helped and who are living today because of Cancell. And this was all
done freely with no exchange of money involved. Now I am considered a
criminal. That's how panicky these people are. You become a criminal to
help your fellow man.

ASN: Who brought the lawsuit against you which resulted in the injunction?

Sopcak: Actually they didn't have a plaintiff. The FDA represented it but
the FDA can not be a plaintiff. It really was the American Medical
Association who uses the FDA as an enforcement arm. Furthermore, the
National Cancer Institute lied and said they never ran the test.

According to the law, if they find one positive result out of the testing
done, one case where a tumor was reduced in size or eliminated, they have
to continue testing. What they did in this case is they said there was no
reason to do any further testing. And they dropped all tests. It was
completely unlawful.

Furthermore, when investigators for the FDA went out and interviewed people
trying to find a harmed party they got all positive responses. They got the
names illegally bey going to the United Parcel Service and getting the
names of the people I had sent it to. Then when they couldn't get a harmed
party that way they solicited oncologists to try to get one to sign a
complaint against me. But none of them would sign a complaint.

So they went to trial without a plaintiff. And because they didn't have a
plaintiff, there was never a hearing. I never saw the judge. They just did
this all in paperwork and the judge illegally issued a permanent
injunction. The law says is I have a constitutional right to face my
accuser. I didn't have that because there was no accuser. Furthermore, the
law says the judge has to issue a temporary injunction to determine if the
product does irreparable harm. He didn't do that. He issued a permanent
injunction.

What is truly ironic is that when I submitted a motion to set the
injunction aside until I could appeal it the motion was denied on the basis
that this injunction didn't do me any harm because I wasn't suffering
financial loss since I was giving the material away. The judge made the
statement that the only people that it harms were those people who were
benefiting by taking Cancell. He signed that statement.

We erroneously think that all we have to do is just modify the law. But
they're not following the law anyhow. What difference does it make if you
modify it?

But we do have some congressmen and some senators who are well aware of
what's going on. As more people become aware and contact their
representatives to tell them, "We're not going to take this anymore,"
eventually change will come about. Actually, this injunction is causing
that momentum to build quite rapidly. Some people are very incensed that
they have been condemned to death by government bureaucrats.
